Global Climate Strike

- Greta Thunberg
UN Youth Climate Summit, New York, 21st September 2019
Now, millions stand beside her, asking our leaders to take action. This is a pivotal moment for the future of life on Earth. We now know exactly what is needed to halt and even reverse man made climate change and yet our leaders are not acting fast enough. Our youth, the generation who will live to see the catastrophic results of inaction, are demanding change.

We stood beside the youth of New Zealand last Friday. We marched with signs made by the wonderful children at Cloud Workshop, who hold art workshops for grieving youth. As we marched for change, we asked our team what changes they wanted to see from the government in order to mitigate our climate crisis. |

“I’m striking because what else can we do to get our leaders to listen? The children are now leading the way! I would like to see the government pass the Zero Carbon Act to get New Zealand to net zero carbon by 2040.” - Charissa, Logistics Manager |

“The government should invest more in solar because enough energy hits the surface of the Earth each day to power all our needs - it already powers the entire biological ecosystem” - Ella, Head of Retail Development |

“Methane and nitrous oxide from animal agriculture make up around half of NZs total greenhouse gas emissions. Cutting agriculture subsidies is a start but I would like to see the government putting significantly more resources reducing this. Also, I challenge individuals to switch to a plant based diet - even starting with a couple of days a week!” - Alisha, PR and Digital Manager |

“I would like the government to put a price on carbon emissions...to promote renewable energy/promote, subsidise and provide more sustainable transportation options.” - Georgia, Production Manager |

"I am striking because I would like the government to understand how deeply rooted this problem is. We only need to look at wardrobe hall videos on youtube to see how far down the rabbit hole we are. Convenience and choice and speed is now the expectation. The pace we are consuming at is the new normal, but if you take a step back, it's clear that ‘normal’ isn’t normal at all. We cant think that purchasing an average of 78 articles of clothing a year does not come at a serious cost. I think the government can set an example by enforcing this be taught in primary education.” - George, Sales Manager |
